Ryan Edwards tops Lightning draft picks

With eight picks the Rockford Lightning made a bevy of selections that they hope will be able to make a difference during the 2005-2006 CBA season. With the sell out crowd at 10th Inning Bar and Grill anxiously waiting, Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo emerged from his famous "War Room" and selected Ryan Edwards with their first selection of the draft.
Edwards led Missouri Baptist in scoring this past season, averaging 17 ppg. and 6 rbg. for the American Midwest Conference Champions. Edwards also was named to the NAIA All-American Honorable Mention team.
The Lighting next selected Kenyon Gamble, a 6-11 shot blocking center from Tuskegee University. Ed McCants, a high-flying scoring machine from Wisconsin-Milwaukee was the third pick selected and local hero Roger Powell, Jr. was the fourth round selection.
The remaining Lightning selections included Alex Dunn, Jeff Hagen, Aaron Coombs and Steve Walters.
"We're very happy the way the draft went for us this year," said Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo. "We had specific players targeted and we were able to get everyone that we wanted. Now we can look forward to the start of training camp to see how they all compete for a spot on the roster this season."
