Ryan Donald and Alain Goulet Assigned to Reading

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the Providence Bruins of the AHL have assigned defensemen Ryan Donald and Alain Goulet ["ah LANE goo LAY"] to the Royals. In separate transactions also completed today, the Royals: (i) released forward John Mori, forward Walker Wintoneak, and defenseman Dave Cowan from their ECHL contracts; (ii) released goaltender Shane Davis from his Tryout Agreement; (iii) released forward John Scrymgeour from his Tryout Agreement and signed him to an ECHL contract; (iv) placed defenseman Dallas Jackson on the 3-Day Injured Reserve; (v) placed defenseman Jared Ross on the 7-Day Injured Reserve; (vi) added defenseman Tim Branham to the roster and placed him on the 21-Day Injured Reserve; and (vii) placed forward Chris Blight on the 21-Day Injured Reserve.

The Royals currently have twenty-two players (eleven forwards, nine defensemen, and two goaltenders) in Training Camp.

Last season, Donald (6'3/227) (24), who hails from St. Albert, Alberta, scored two goals and added six assists (eight points) and picked up forty-six penalty minutes thirty-four games for the Yale University Bulldogs. Donald, who served as the captain of the Bulldogs in his senior season, registered one assist in three games with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL late last season after completing his collegiate eligibility. Donald, who picked up twenty-four points (5g-19a) and 231 penalty minutes in 123 total college games, helped the Bulldogs earn back-to-back NCAA tournament berths in his final two years at Yale.

Goulet (6'1/199) (22), who is in his second year of pro, played in the 2010-11 season opening game for Providence, a 5-1 loss to the Springfield Falcons last Friday night, without registering any points or penalty minutes. Last season, Goulet scored three goals and added fifteen assists (eighteen points) and picked up twenty-eight penalty minutes in seventy-one games with the P-Bruins. Prior to turning pro, Goulet, who hails from Kapuskasing, Ontario, played 54 games over a season-and-a-half with the University of Nebraska-Omaha. In his freshman year, Goulet was the third leading scoring defenseman for the Mavericks with fourteen points (6g-8a) in thirty-seven games. Goulet transitioned to major junior hockey mid-way through the 2008-09 season when he left Nebraska-Omaha for the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. While with Gatineau, Goulet was third amongst d-men in scoring, racking up thirty-five points (16g-19a) in thirty-two games, while playing to a plus-21 (+21) in thirty-two games.
