Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - For the second straight Tuesday, the Rapid City Rush and Missouri Mavericks clashed at the Independence Events Center. After a game that saw eleven combined goals, the two teams tightened up the defense as Rapid City came away with a 2-1 victory for their fourth straight road win, and tenth straight overall. Mavs goaltender Alexandre Vincent and Rush netminder Danny Battochio combined for 67 saves on the night.
Rapid City held a 16-7 shot advantage in the opening frame, but neither team could find the back of the net.
In the second, Les Reaney broke the scoreless tie at the 2:13 mark. Mavs netminder Alexandre Vincent made a save on a shot from the point, but Reaney's turnaround shot went off of traffic in front and in for the game's first goal. Exactly eight minutes later, Missouri would tie the contest as Derek Pallardy sprung Nick Sirota on an odd man rush. Sirota took the puck down the left wing side and would up for a slap shot from the top of circle that beat Battochio for the equalizer.
The game remained an even battle until the Mavs gave the Rush one too many powerplay chances as Rapid City took the lead on their sixth and final chance. Off of the faceoff, Jamie VanderVeeken sent in a wrist shot that Luke Erickson deflected past Vincent to make it 2-1.
Rapid City would hold off the Mavericks over the final eight minutes that included a Mavs powerplay with less than five minutes left.
Danny Battochio collected 28 saves to move to 9-3-1, while Vincent took the loss and is now 2-4-0 despite making 39 saves on 41 shots. Rapid City ended the evening 1-for-6 on the powerplay while stopping Missouri on all four of their opportunities. Player/assistant Scott Wray had his point streak snapped at 10 games, still an all-time high for the Rush, while Les Reaney extended his to eight.
Rapid City now moves to 16-6-1 (33pts.) and now holds a share of first place in the Northern Conference.
Rapid City continues on their road trip as they head to Mississippi to take on the RiverKings for the first meeting of the season at the DeSoto CC. The game is scheduled for Friday, December 18th, at 6:05pm MST.
