Rush Welcome Goaltender Teanna Sieben for Season Finale
April 27, 2018 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Saskatchewan Rush News Release
Saskatoon, SK - Just in time for the final regular season game tomorrow evening vs. Calgary, a young goaltender will joining the Saskatchewan Rush as extra reinforcement. Estevan product Teanna Sieben will be joining the Rush for the day, participating in morning shoot-around and warm-ups prior to ball drop. Teanna will also be introduced in the Rush starting lineup.
At age 18, Sieben has played the game of Lacrosse since she was 13. Sieben is quickly emerging as a star in net, and hopes to play collegiate Lacrosse in the United States. She frequently travels to Calgary in order to work with ELEV8 Lacrosse, including Rush player Tor Reinholdt.
Teanna has worked relentlessly to perfect her craft, overcoming plenty of adversity in the process. She was born with influenza pneumonia, and the medication she received to treat the illness left her with profound hearing loss. By age 10, Teanna was almost completely deaf. At this time, she was approved to have a second cochlear implant surgery. The surgery was a success, and improved her hearing.
As a deaf athlete, Sieben is an incredible role model for young girls with disabilities. She encourages fellow young female athletes who face similar challenges to stay the course and follow their dreams.
In advance of tomorrow, Teanna is thrilled to be joining the Rush, sharing "This opportunity is more than I could have ever imagined, a dream come true. Can't wait to meet the Rush team and be part of such a great experience. It's such an honour!"
Rush players and coaches are thrilled to have Teanna in the crease and expect her to provide an extra spark heading into tomorrow night's Battle Of The Prairies.
"After her time with the team tomorrow, perhaps Teanna will one day be a starting goalie for the Saskatchewan Rush! We can't wait to have her on the floor with everyone, I hear that she is one heck of a goalie," said Rush Head Coach and GM, Derek Keenan. "It's going to be a great time, for sure."
