Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - Not surprisingly, the Rush found themselves in another close contest with the Gorillas on Wednesday night. Rapid City used four straight goals for the 6-4 comeback victory and extended their lead to four points in the Northern Conference. Les Reaney paced all skaters with a four point effort while Jon Pelle netted two on the night for his fourth game-winner of the season. The game marked the 100th contest for the young franchise.
Unlike the previous two contests between the two squads, the Rush were the first to get on the board with a tally coming at the 7:02 mark. Rich Hansen entered the offensive end on the right side and found Jon Pelle trailing on the attack who batted a rolling puck past the blocker of Mike Brown for the game's first score. Just 49 seconds later an outlet pass from Jake Obermeyer led to a 3-on-1 opportunity for Amarillo and Erik Felde capitalized to even the score. At the 16:05 mark, Rapid City would regain the lead with a goal from Blaine Jarvis right off of a faceoff won by Les Reaney. Reaney won the draw back to Jarvis, who was positioned at the top of the circle, and his wrist shot trickled in as Rapid City regained the lead. Once again, the Gorillas would counterstrike quickly, this time it was Jason Beeman with a goal just 1:09 after the Jarvis goal to knot the game at 2.
In the middle frame, the Gorillas would continue their momentum as David Nimmo picked up his 15th of the season and lifted Amarillo to its first lead of the game. After the goal, Danny Battochio was replaced by Miguel Beaudry for the remainder of the contest. The Gorillas wouldn't stop there as Erik Felde's second of the game at 7:54 lifted Amarillo to its first two-goal lead on the Rush. Late in the period, Rapid City received a two-man advantage which included a high sticking double minor, and Brendon Hodge took advantage as he blasted a shot home to cut the lead in half. Then with 50 seconds remaining in the period, Jamie VanderVeeken fired a wrist shot that deflected off the skate of Rich Hansen who was credited with the game-tying goal.
In the final stanza, Jon Pelle would keep the trend going as his roofed in his second of the game to give Rapid City the lead just 1:39 in. For the third straight game, the Rush would hold the Gorillas scoreless on the final frame and Les Reaney would add an empty net goal to seal the 6-4 victory.
Beaudry made18 saves on 19 shots for his 11th win of the season while Brown stopped 44 shots in the loss.
