Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Tyrel Lucas scored two goals, including the third period game-winner, as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs skated to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Wichita Thunder Thursday night at CenturyTel Center. The 'Bugs improved to 20-13-4 with the win, which also got them back to.500 at home (8-8-0).

Lucas' game-winner came on the powerplay with 8:18 remaining in regulation, giving him his second consecutive two-goal game for the Mudbugs. John DeCaro finished with 30 saves on the way to his 11th win of the season. Bossier-Shreveport has now beaten Wichita 13 straight times in regular season play.

The Mudbugs opened the scoring in this one as Lucas picked up where he left off Wednesday night, intercepting a Wichita clearing attempt and scoring at 4:30 to make it 1-0 'Bugs. The Thunder answered later in the period when Paul Kelly's shot bounced off the end boards and back out front, where Brandon Kaleniecki was waiting to jam it in and tie the game at one after the first 20 minutes.

The Mudbugs were outshot 16-8 in the second period, but killed off a pair of Wichita powerplays and held the Thunder off the board to keep the game tied heading into the third.

The first half of the final period stayed tight before the 'Bugs notched the go-ahead goal on the powerplay at 11:42. Justin Aikins slid a pass through traffic to David Rutherford, who then found Lucas on the back door for a tap-in goal to put the Mudbugs on top to stay.

John DeCaro goes to 11-8-1 this year with the victory, while Ian Keserich stopped 28 shots in defeat. The Mudbugs scored once on seven powerplay chances and held the Thunder scoreless in two opportunities. Wichita outshot Bossier-Shreveport 31-30 in the game.

The Mudbugs will now make the short trip to Allen, Texas to face the Americans on Saturday before starting a five-game homestand next week. The 'Bugs are 0-1-1 against the Americans this season after dropping a pair of one-goal games by scores of 2-1 and 4-3 in a shootout.

Opening faceoff for Saturday's game at the Allen Events Center is set for 7:30 pm, with pregame coverage starting at 7:10 on AM 1130 KWKH. The game will also be shown live online on CHL TV.
