Rapid City Rush News Release
(Loveland, CO) - All good things come to an end. The Rapid City Rush were dealt a 6-2 loss by the Colorado Eagles on Wednesday night, ending the Rush win streak at 13 games. The loss is the first for Rapid City since January 22nd and first on the road since January 16th. The Rush still hold a one-point lead in the Turner Conference and are back in action against the Missouri Mavericks this weekend. Tickets are still available for both the Friday and Saturday tilts.
The Rush got off on the right foot, scoring the game's opening goal just fourteen seconds into the contest. An offensive zone faceoff win by Les Reaney allowed defenseman Dave Grimson to send a wrist shot through a screen and over the blocker of goaltender Kyle Jones. The Eagles bounced back with a pair of goals near the midway point, the first coming at 10:03 from Andrej Hebar. Hebar redirected a Matt Hanson shot that deflected off of Danny Battochio's glove and in to even the score. Just 1:15 later, the Eagles took the lead when Scott May's rebound banked off of the post and the back of Battochio's right pad before trickling over the goal line.
Colorado kept the momentum going into the second period, netting two more in the opening 3:09. The Eagles converted on a timely bounce that allowed Adam Chorneyko to center a pass to Riley Nelson who buried on the empty net, doubling the lead. Joe Grimaldi then netted the fourth unanswered goal for the Eagles, receiving a cross-ice pass then snapping a low shot past Battochio, ending the goaltender's evening. The Rush finally stopped the bleeding at the 11:35 mark on Derek LeBlanc's 20th goal of the season. The winger's turnaround shot from the bottom of the right circle beat Kyle Jones to the short side, giving the Rush a breath of life heading into the third.
Colorado, however, scored the lone two goals of the final period, putting the contest out of reach. Matt Hanson scored Colorado's second powerplay goal of the night at 15:20, firing a slap shot under the glove hand of Tim Boron. Just 41 seconds later, Adam Chorneyko's stretch pass allowed Riley Nelson to unload a slapshot to the top-left corner, bringing the game to its 6-2 final.
Danny Battochio was dealt the loss, ending his nine-game personal win streak while Kyle Jones picked up his 23 victory.
The Rush now face the Missouri Mavericks this Friday and Saturday at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Tickets are still available for both games.
