Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Ryan Munce stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced in his Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs debut, but his counterpart Marco Emond was one save better as the Bloomington PrairieThunder snuck past the Mudbugs 2-1 in overtime on the first night of "Pink in the Rink" weekend Thursday at the CenturyTel Center.

Bossier-Shreveport gains one point with the OT loss, moving to 28-21-3 after a game that was delayed 30 minutes due a weather-related power outage at the CTC. Brett Smith scored the lone Mudbugs goal in the third period, while John Snowden netted the overtime winner for Bloomington.

For the third consecutive game, the Mudbugs found themselves in a scoreless tie after one period Thursday. The ‚¬ËœBugs heavily outshot Bloomington by a 17-4 margin in an opening period that featured no goals, no penalties and very few stoppages.

The ‚¬ËœBugs were outshot 13-10 in the middle frame, but successfully killed off four Bloomington powerplays as both goaltenders stepped up to keep the game deadlocked at 0-0 into the third stanza.

Bossier-Shreveport struck quickly on the powerplay early in the third as Jamie Milam ‚¬â„¢s long wrist shot from the point was tipped by Brett Smith and traveled over the blocker of a screened Marco Emond into the net. The ‚¬ËœBugs maintained that lead until the 14:35 mark of the third, when they failed to clear a rebound in front of Munce during a Bloomington powerplay. Bill Bagron then deposited the puck for the PrairieThunder to even the score at one and force an extra session.

The Mudbugs had a powerplay in overtime when Alan Mazur was whistled for tripping, but mustered only one shot and failed to beat Emond. A long point shot by Jon Booras was then stopped by Munce before Snowden tucked in the rebound at 3:48 to give the PrairieThunder a 2-1 victory.

Ryan Munce (0-0-1) looked strong in his Mudbugs debut, making a number of tough saves before suffering the overtime defeat. Marco Emond (22-11-1) ended the night with 33 stops as Bossier-Shreveport outshot Bloomington 34-31 and both goaltenders were among the game ‚¬â„¢s "Three Stars". The Mudbugs scored on 1 of 3 powerplay chances, while the PrairieThunder were 1 for 5.
