Rapid City Rush News Release
(Wichita, KS) - The Rapid City Rush remained perfect against the Wichita Thunder on Tuesday with a 4-2 victory in the last meeting between the two teams at the Kansas Coliseum. Jon Pelle scored two goals including the game winner and added an assist for a three point game to pace all skaters while Miguel Beaudry made 30 saves for his 10th win of the season. Rapid City is now 13-2-0 in their last fifteen and have won seven of their last eight road games. Through just 28 games, the Rush have now matched last season's total of eight road victories.
Midway through the first period, Rich Hansen netted his fifth of the season to give Rapid City a 1-0 lead. Scott Wray dropped a pass to Hansen at center ice who used a Thunder defenseman for a screen on a wrist shot from the top of the circle that found the top right corner.
Rapid City would double the lead in the second period with a goal set up by Scott Bartlett who picked up his first point in a Rush uniform. Bartlett entered the offensive end on the right wing and sent a pass back door to a streaking Jarvis who deflected the puck home to make it 2-0.
The Rush would hold on to their 2-0 lead until Brandon Kaleniecki cut the lead in half at the 11:43 mark of the third period. Kaleniecki took a tough angle shot in on net and netted his own rebound on the opposite side of the net to put Wichita on the board. Rapid City would answer less than three minutes later when Jon Pelle was set up for a breakaway in on Scott Campbell. Rapid City's new addition, Rod Aldoff, sent a head-man pass to Rich Hansen and dropped the puck for Pelle who buried a backhander to double the lead once again. In the final minute, Kaleniecki would make it a one-goal game yet again on a shorthanded goal fired to the top left corner to make it 3-2. On the ensuing faceoff, Campbell was pulled to even thing up, but Rapid City would win the draw, allowing Pelle to score his second of the game.
Rapid City was 1-for-5 on the powerplay and held the Thunder scoreless on four chances. Rapid City remains perfect on the penalty kill against the Thunder this season, killing off all 31 chances against. The powerplay goal marks the 10th straight contest that the Rush have scored while on the man-advantage.
The Rush now play the final game of their current road trip as they travel to Amarillo to take on the Gorillas on Thursday at 6:05pm MST.
