June 22, 2023 - Eastern League (EL)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies score early and often to down the Akron RubberDucks 8-2 on Thursday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
After Akron took the lead in the first, Binghamton answered back in the big way in the second. Warren Saunders opened the scoring with a double to bring home Hayden Senger and tie the game 1-1. A Branden Fryman RBI single and Tanner Murphy walk put runners on the corners with two outs. Rowdey Jordan and Jose Peroza each picked up RBI singles to cap the four inning and put Binghamton ahead 4-1.
Mound Presence
Doug Nikhazy started strong for Akron striking out the side in the first. After Binghamton got the left-hander for four in the second, Nikhazy looked to settle back in tossing a scoreless third. However a fourth inning homer and two-out single would end his night with three and two thirds allowing five runs while striking out five. Matt Turner followed with three innings of relief allowing two runs while striking out three. Mason Hickman tossed two and a third innings allowing a run while striking out three.
Duck Tales
Akron cracked the scoreboard first. Jose Tena doubled to open the bottom of the first before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Petey Halpin lifted a sac-fly to deep left to score Tena and make it 1-0 RubberDucks. Bryan Lavastida launched a no-doubt home run in the fourth to get Akron closer at 5-2.
Notebook
Lavastida recorded his 13th multi-hit game of the season, which is third most on the RubberDucks this season...Game Time: 2:40...Attendance: 4,676.
