SANDY, Utah (Monday, August 13, 2012) - Real Salt Lake and partners Zions Bank and Verizon Wireless are proud to announce the third-annual Real Salt Lake/Zions Bank Ligas All-Star Game, presented by Verizon Wireless, taking place at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 1:00 p.m. MT. Gates will open at 12:00 p.m. for the match, which is free to the public.
The Ligas All-Star game is a Hispanic-based community program that showcases local soccer talent from some of Utah's most prominent adult leagues, this year featuring representatives from Liga Continental de Futbol, Liga Soccer Mexico Utah, Liga Premier de Utah, and Park City Soccer League. Liga Continental de Futbol and Liga Soccer Mexico Utah will combine to form Equipo Rojo while Liga Premier de Utah and Park City Soccer League will team up to form Equipo Blanco.
This year, teams were submitted by the Ligas presidents and picked internally by coaches, players and representatives from each Liga. This is a change from the previous two editions of the game, when the teams were selected by fan voting.
This year's Ligas All-Star game is part of a doubleheader with Real Salt Lake, as the Claret-and-Cobalt will take on Western Conference rival FC Dallas at Rio Tinto Stadium later at 7:00 p.m. on Aug. 18.
