Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed goaltender Kris Mayotte ["MAY ott"] to an ECHL contract. In a separate transaction, the Royals also announced that Eric Castonguay has been returned to Reading from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL.
Last season, Mayotte (6'1/193) (27), a fifth year pro who hails from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, compiled a 10-16-5 record with a 3.86 goals against average and an .892 save percentage in thirty-three games with the Johnstown Chiefs. He also played in one game last year with the Adirondack Phantoms of the AHL. Mayotte, who was selected to represent the Johnstown Chiefs as a starter in the ECHL All-Star Game held at the Sovereign Center in Reading in January of 2009, has played a total of 109 regular season ECHL games with the San Diego Gulls, Fresno Falcons and the Johnstown Chiefs. Mayotte, who attended Royals' training camp prior to the start of the 2007-08 ECHL season, has actually played against the Royals ten times as member of the Chiefs and compiled a record of 8-2-0-0 with a 2.87 goals against average and .932 save percentage in those games. Prior to turning pro, Mayotte put together a stellar four-year career at Union College, where he established a number of school records, including wins in a single season (16) during his senior year with the Dutchmen.
Castonguay, a third year pro from Granby, Quebec, was loaned to Bridgeport on Sunday and played in that day's game for the Sound Tigers, scoring the team's second goal in Bridgeport's 3-0 win over the Norfolk Admirals. He was chosen as the game's third star. Castonguay has registered ten points (4g-6a) in twelve games with the Royals this season.
The Royals are off until Friday (December 3, 2010 @ 7:05) when the Elmira Jackals visit the Sovereign Center. The Royals game night broadcast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show presented by The Works at Wyomissing on the Royals Broadcast Network (WRAW 1340 am in Reading, www.1340wraw.com) at 6:35 pm.
