Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals are pleased to announce the team has signed 2006-born defenceman, Hudson Bjornson, to a WHL Standard Player Agreement (SPA).
Bjornson was the Royals first round selection, ninth overall, in the 2021 U.S. WHL Priority Draft and is the first player selected from that draft to sign a contract with their respective club.
"We are very happy to get Hudson signed and we welcome his entire family to the Royals organization. Hudson is a very focused, high achieving, young athlete that will fit nicely into our program and be a great addition to our team," Ed Fowler, Director of Player Personnel said of Bjornson.
The 6'1", one-hundred and fifty-four-pound defenceman from Scottsdale, Arizona, currently plays for the U15 AAA Phoenix Junior Coyotes of the U15 Tier One Elite Hockey League (T1EHL). Through 11 games this season, Bjornson has picked up three assists and 15 penalty minutes.
"I am very excited and honoured to be signing with a great organization like the Victoria Royals. I'm looking forward to being a part of something special, and I can't wait to get to work," the 15-year-old told Royals media.
Last season, Bjornson played in 12 games for the U14 AAA Phoenix Junior Coyotes of the U14 T1EHL, recording two goals and two assists. He was also invited to be a part of the Windy City Storm in the World Youth Championships (WYC) in Philadelphia last May.
