Royals Ready To Celebrate "R" Town
June 26, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced that the organization's seventh season will focus upon honoring the people, history, and landmarks of the Greater Reading Region. The 2007-08 marketing campaign will utilize the tag line "R-Team/R-Town" as the center-piece in game night promotions, community activities, charitable efforts, and a new line merchandise. The tag line is embodied in a logo designed by Joe Bosack, president and founder of The Joe Bosack Graphic Design Company of Philadelphia, who incorporated the team's secondary logo-the "R Crown"-as the graphic anchor for the tag line.
For the second consecutive season, the Royals will kick off this year's marketing campaign with a photo contest for fans. This year, the team is encouraging fans to submit photographs focusing on landmarks within the Greater Reading Region, while prominently displaying the fans themselves-decked out in their Royals' gear, of course. A panel of judges will select the best photos, and the organization will place the chosen images on the individual game tickets in the Season Ticket Booklet for 2007-08-which means that there will be a total of 37 "winners" (36 regular season games and the first playoff ticket). The panel of judges will also select a 'Best Photo,' and that image will not only be placed on the season ticket for the home opener, but also will serve as the cover for the Royals' first program booklet of the season. The fan submitting the photo that receives the top prize will also receive a Royals' game worn jersey from the 2006-07 season.
To show us all how it is done, earlier this week, Reading Mayor Tom McMahon donned his Royals' apparel and snapped a photo with the Royals' mascot, Slapshot, at the Reading Pagoda, which will celebrate its 100th Year Anniversary in 2008. That image can be viewed on the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com. Mayor McMahon stated, "we're very excited that the Royals have decided to honor the people, heritage and landmarks of our community this season. It's perfect timing, particularly since we are preparing to celebrate the Centennial Anniversary of one of our most well known landmarks, the Reading Pagoda, in 2008. The Royals hockey team has grown to become an integral part of our lives here in the Greater Reading Region-they clearly are âR' Team-and we all look forward to celebrating another fun season of hockey action at the Sovereign Center this year."
Gordon Kaye, the Royals' general manager stated, "as we prepare for this seventh season of Royals hockey in Reading, we believe that it's important for our organization to clearly and emphatically recognize the link between the success of our organization and the support of our home community. Over the history of our team, we have received such outstanding treatment from the people of this region that we want to do what we can to return the favor. We hope that over the course of the season we can help highlight the many things that are right with our community, and we want to kick that off by asking our fans to get out to the region's landmarks and display their Royals' pride. We look forward to seeing the creativity and class of Royals' fans at work in this season's photograph contest."
Photos submitted for the "R-Team, R-Town" Photo Contest can run the gamut of possibilities. The Royals only respectfully request that everyone participating in the contest follow all rules and regulations established by the appropriate authorities operating the chosen landmarks. Some examples of various landmarks that fans could incorporate in their photographs include local museums (such as the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum or Reading Railroad Heritage Museum), parks and sanctuaries (such as Blue Marsh Lake, the Union Canal Walking & Bicycle Trail or the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary), special geological features (such as Crystal Cave), local schools or universities, historic barns, or covered bridges, important buildings (such as Goggle Works Center for the Arts or the Stirling Guest Hotel), or perhaps some of other "hidden treasure" within our region.
Digital images are preferred-but not required-and can be e-mailed directly to rteamrtown@royalshockey.com. You may also mail photographs to the Royals' office at: 645 Penn Street, Reading (19601). All photographs submitted to the Royals become the property of the organization and cannot be returned. Please note that there is also a "Permission To Use Photo Form," i.e. a Release, that must be signed and submitted to the Royals' in order to have your photo considered in the "R-Team, R-Town" Photo Contest. This form can be printed off the Royals' website, or you can contact the Royals' office to obtain this form (610-898-7825). Please mail the completed form directly to the Royals' office (address noted above) to the attention of: "PHOTO CONTEST PERMISSION FORM." Deadline for receiving the photos for the "R-Team, R-Town" Fan Photo contest is midnight on Friday, July 20, 2007.
The Royals' home opener is on Saturday, November 3, 2007, against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Royals' full Season Tickets and Total Choice Flex Plans are now on sale. To obtain more information on becoming a part of Royals' hockey, call 610-898-PUCK to speak with Royals' ticket representative or visit the Royals website, www.royalshockey.com.
