Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB -- The Medicine Hat Tigers opened a 4 game road trip to the West Coast on Wednesday night against the Victoria Royals looking to extend their 3 game winning streak. The Tigers, who coming into the night were just 3 points back of the Edmonton Oil Kings looked to get back within one point.
Medicine Hat played the perfect road game in the opening period as they were able to hold the host team to only 9 shots on goal, all turned away by starter Nick Schneider. Two Tigers were making their debuts as well against the Royals as hometown boy and prospect Dawson Heathcote suited up in his first game as a Tiger and Brian Williams, who came over in the Cole Sanford trade also made his debut, wearing the aformentioned Sanford's 26. Medicine Hat would get on the board first as Mason Shaw was recipient of a Chad Butcher pass and buried his 12th of the year past Coleman Vollrath, who was making his first start in 6 games. The Tigers held the 1-0 lead into the break.
The middle frame seemed to wake up the Royals as they piled on the shots, 24 to be exact in the period. Regan Nagy opened the scoring to tie the game up just 37 seconds into the frame and Alex Mowbray extended his point streak to 4 games with his 7th of the year moments later to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. The flood gates would open as an Ethan Price power play goal sparked three straight goals in the period and held the Tigers to just 2 shots on net, taking a 4-2 lead into the final 20 minutes.
Once again the Tigers couldn't snap the Royals momentum as they would come out with 4 straight goals and 7 unanswered overall to kick the third period. A Marcel Ibragimov early marker put the game virtually away for the Royals, extending the lead to 5-2. Nick Schneider would be relieved after he allowed 6 goals on 37 shots. Mack Shields came in to allow 2 goals on 7 shots in the final period, giving the Royals a decisive 8-2 victory and snapping the Tabbies 3 game win streak.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
1. ETHAN PRICE - VIC - (2G)
2. DANTE HANNOUN - VIC - (1G, 2A)
3. JARED DMYTRIW - VIC - (2A)
Medicine Hat extends their road trip with a final matchup with Trevor Cox and the Vancouver Giants on Friday night, puck drop is 8:30 MT.
