SURPRISE, AZ â The Omaha Royals opened their 15-game Cactus League schedule Monday, dropping their Spring Training opener 11-4 to the Oklahoma RedHawks in Surprise, Arizona.
The RedHawks scored four runs in the top of the first inning off Omaha lefty Michael Stodolka, who bounced back to blank Oklahoma in his second and final inning of work.
Justin Huber, one of Kansas City's top prospects who is making the switch from catcher to first base this season, belted a two-run homer in his first at-bat and finished the day one-for-two at the plate.
Center fielder Cory Aldridge, who hit 18 home runs in 280 at-bats for Double-A Wichita in 2004, hit a solo shot and scored two runs in the loss.
Right-hander Kyle Middleton tossed two scoreless innings of relief for the Royals, allowing two hits and a walk, while striking out two batters.
Omaha faces Oklahoma again Tuesday at the Spring Training complex shared by the Royals and Texas Rangers. Omaha opens its 2005 Pacific Coast League regular season on April 7th at Round Rock. The Royals face the same club in their home opener at Rosenblatt Stadium on Friday, April 15th at 7:05 p.m.
