After selecting 20 college players with 27 day two picks, the Kansas City Royals drafted 13 high school players with 20 selections on day three of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Among the many high school players selected by the Royals were right-handed pitchers Michael Morin and Jeffrey Soptic, who both played in the Shawnee Mission area of Kansas.
The Royals added size with Thursday's picks. Besides Soptic, who's 6'6", Kansas City selected right-handed pitcher Tanner Poppe (6'6") from Marist High School in New Jersey, first baseman Arthur Charles (6'6") from Bakersfield College, and left-handed pitcher Jonathan Keck (6'6") from Bethel College.
