MISSOULA, MONT. - The Arizona Diamondbacks wrapped up their 2009 MLB Draft on Thursday by taking a mix of high school and college players, as well as staying with the theme of adding pitching to their farm system.
The first five picks of the day for the D-Backs were all right-handed pitchers with some college-level experience. Keith Cantwell of Seton Hall was the 31st round pick, and the first of the day, and Arizona followed with William Harvil from Georgia (32nd round), Bradley Wilson of Cal Poly-Pomona (33rd round), Patrick Cooper of Des Moines Area Community College (34th round) and Zachery Morgan of Shasta College of California (35th round).
The next five picks told of the position mix which the D-Backs would go with for the remainder of the draft, with the selections of shortstop Michael Freeman (Clemson, 36th round), outfielders Christopher Jacobs (Westminster HS, Calif., 37th round), Ryan Jones (Wichita St., 39th round) and Tim Sherlock (Duke, 40th round) and left-handed pitcher Trevon Price (Oakland, CA, 38th round).
The last 10 picks for the D-Backs were third baseman Cade Krueter of Hart High School in California (41st round), catchers Zach Hendrix (Emerald Ridge HS, WA, 42nd round), Brooklyn Foster (Walnut Groves Sec. School, NY, 43rd round), and Zachery Burnell (Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 44th round), outfielders Beau Amaral (Huntington Beach HS, CA, 45th round), Matthew Ozanne (Notre Dame HS, Ariz., 46th round), Juan Avila (Narbonne HS, CA, 48th round) and Jordan Luvisi (Notre Dame HS, Ariz., 49th round), right-handed pitcher Frank Abbl (Mesa Community College, 50th round) and left-handed pitcher Mario Gallardo (West Los Angeles College, 47th round).
