OMAHA – Colorado Springs starter Aaron Cook served up a steady diet of sinkers Sunday at Rosenblatt Stadium, inducing 13 ground outs in six scoreless innings and the Royals tied a season low with three hits in a 3-1 loss to the Sky Sox in front of 2,522 fans.

Scott Dohmann (1-0) added two hitless innings, striking out four Royals, to get the win. Marc Kroon pitched a perfect ninth, adding two whiffs, to notch his third save.

The game, which was delayed for 16 minutes before its first pitch and again for 41 minutes in the bottom of the first inning by rain showers, was scoreless through the first five frames. The second rain delay limited Chris George's start to 12 pitches. George, who was just activated from the disabled list Sunday, retired three of the four batters he faced in a scoreless first inning.

Reliever Joe Dawley came on to pitch in the second and kept the Sky Sox off the scoreboard until the sixth inning. Dawley got ahead of Garrett Atkins no-balls-and-two-strikes to begin the sixth, but wound up walking him. The next batter, Andy Tracy, laced an RBI double to right-center to draw first blood for the visitors.

The Royals tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Gookie Dawkins coaxed the only walk surrendered by Cook. Wilton Guerrero, in a 1-for-19 slide at the plate, ripped a single to center field. Rick Short fouled out for the second out of the stanza, but Jarrod Patterson lined Cook's 2-2 pitch through the left side of the infield to even the score.

The Sky Sox scored twice in the eighth inning off Ryan Bukvich (1-2), who took the loss. Tracy's second run-scoring double plated the deciding run and Choo Freeman's sacrifice fly tacked on insurance.

Omaha (10-14) wound up splitting its first series this season vs. Colorado Springs (12-10). Having wrapped up a 3-5 home stand, the Royals open an eight-game road trip to Iowa and Albuquerque at Des Moines on Monday at 7:05 p.m.: RH Doug Linton (1-2, 11.74) vs. LH Andy Pratt (0-3, 15.00). The pre-game show airs at 6:45 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.
