Tucson Sidewinders News Release
The Tucson Sidewinders shutout the Sacramento Rivercats 8-0 to post their first victory of the series. The win propelled the Sidewinders (13-9) back up to a 1.5 game lead over Sacramento (12-11). Starting pitcher Andrew Good (2-1) pitched a gem, throwing 7 innings of scoreless ball and limiting the RiverCats to just 5 hits.
For Tucson, 2B Scott Hairston hit his 4th homer of the year with a 1st inning, 2-run shot to left field. Hairston also helped to preserve the shutout with a stellar diving play in the top of the 8th. CF Julio Ramirez smashed his first home run of the year to start the scoring in the 6th. He finished 2-5 with a run scored and 2 RBIs. LF Noochie Varner made his first start for the Sidewinders, going 2-4 with a run scored. SS Jerry Gil also went 2-4 with 2 RBIs and a run.
For Sacramento, losing pitcher LHP John Rheinecker dropped his record to 1-3 as he lasted only 3.2 innings, giving up 6 R, 2 ER, on 5 hits. The RiverCats broke down defensively and committed 6 errors on the night, all 6 coming from the infield.
4,375 fans made it out to the ballpark on Saturday night. The game was complete in an efficient 2:37. Tomorrow's probables for the final game of the series feature Sacramento's RHP Steve Woodard (3-0, 3.28) facing LHP Casey Fossum (0-0, 0.00) of Tucson. Game time is 2:00 PM.
