
Royals Add Defensemen Bryan Brutlag and Chris Nutini

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with defensemen Bryan Brutlag ("BROOT lag") and Chris Nutini ("new TEE knee"). With the addition of Brutlag and Nutini, the Royals have announced ten players as signed for 2011-12 season-six forwards: Phil Aucoin, Ryan Cruthers, Casey Haines, Olivier Labelle, John Scrymgeour, and Everett Sheen; and four defensemen: Dave Cowan, Denny Urban, Brutlag and Nutini.
Last season, Brutlag (5'11/189) (22), who played both defense and forward during his four year collegiate career at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, scored eight goals, assisted on eight others (sixteen points) and picked up thirty-six penalty minutes in thirty-seven games for the Red Hawks. Brutlag, who served as an alternate captain for two seasons at RPI, twice led the team in scoring by a defenseman. In 151 total games with the Red Hawks, Brutlag registered sixty points (21g-39a) and 171 penalty minutes. Prior to attending RPI, Brutlag, who hails from Lakeville, Minnesota, received All-State honors during his high school career at the Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield, Minnesota.
Nutini (6'0/205) (25), who hails from Centennial, Colorado, registered eight assists and thirty penalty minutes in forty-two games for the University of Denver Pioneers last year. At the conclusion of his senior season, Nutini, who finished second on the Pioneers with 228 hits, received the Dr. Ken Bredesen Award, which is bestowed upon Denver's Most Sportsmanlike student-athlete, and was the co-recipient of the Dr. Art Mason Memorial Award as the school's top scholar-athlete. Nutini, who was a three-time member of the All-WCHA Academic Team, registered seventeen points (1g-16a) and ninety-five penalty minutes in 132 college games.
