Alaska Aces News Release
The 2011 Kelly Cup Champion Alaska Aces announced on Thursday that they will host their new Western Conference foe, the Colorado Eagles, in a pair of pre-season, exhibition games in early October. The Aces will play their only two games of the pre-season on Tuesday, October 4and Wednesday, October 5 at 7:15pm at Sullivan Arena. The games will be part of the Aces "Paint the Rink Pink" event, benefitting the local fight against Cancer. Funds from the two-day event will go to Breast Cancer Focus Inc. and the American Cancer Society, who will distribute the money to those in the community with all types of cancer. Tickets for both games will go on sale in September, and charitable sponsorship packages are currently available through the Aces office at 15th & Gambell. Tickets for the games are $10 for Aces season ticket holders or groups of 10 or more, and $15 to the general public. For more information, please contact the Aces office at 907.258.ACES, or visit them on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/alaskaaceshockey.
The Aces are returning to pink for the 2011 pre-season, and fans are encouraged to help make this fundraising event bigger than ever. October 4th will be the first time the Aces play a game since capturing their second ever Kelly Cup Championship in May. The themed, two-day event will feature pink, specialty jerseys worn by the Aces that will be auctioned off to fans after Wednesday's game, and the ice will be painted pink. Local non-profit organizations who contribute to the fight against cancer will be on hand to answer questions from fans, and provide information about cancer treatment, prevention, and support.
The games will pit the Aces versus the Eagles, in Colorado's first ever ECHL games. The Eagles are one of two new teams to the league this year, and will be Mountain Division and Western Conference opponents of the Aces. Colorado, which is based out of Loveland, spent the last eight seasons in the Central Hockey League, where they made it to the CHL Finals five times, claiming two championships. Last season they made it to Game 7 of the CHL Finals, before falling to the eventual champion, Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. The Eagles are the only new team to the Western Conference this season, and will face the Aces eight times this season, including five, pivotal meetings in March. Their first regular season trip to Anchorage comes in the final week of December.
The 2011 Kelly Cup Champion Alaska Aces will begin the 2011-2012 season on Friday, October 14 at Sullivan Arena when they host the Las Vegas Wranglers. Season ticket and sponsorship packages are currently available through the Aces office at 15th & Gambell.
