Royals Acquire ECHL Rights to Defenseman Mike Montgomery

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has acquired the ECHL rights to defenseman Mike Montgomery from the Ontario Reign in exchange for forward Everett Sheen.

Montgomery (6'3/210) (25), a first year pro from Lino Lakes, Minnesota, is currently on loan to the Houston Aeros of the AHL, where he has two assists and two penalty minutes in nine games. He played twenty-seven games with the Reign, registering two points (1g-1a) and seventeen penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, Montgomery recorded 38 points (4g-34a) and 42 points in 132 collegiate games at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Last season, Montgomery captained a Bulldogs' squad that captured the UM-D's first ever NCAA Division I National Championship. Sheen, a first year pro from Lethbridge, Alberta, scored five goals and assisted on four others (nine points) in thirty-three games with the Royals. He has also played four games with the Providence Bruins this season.

The Royals' current three game road trip continues on Wednesday morning (February 15, 2012 @ 11:00 am) when the team will face the Trenton Titans at Sun National Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey. The game day broadcast on Wednesday will start at 10:30 am with the Red Robin Gourmet Burger Pre-Game Warm-up Show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Reading. Streaming audio is available free of charge courtesy of America One through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com. As with all Royals' road games this season, Wednesday's game will be televised locally in Berks County on BCTV courtesy of Boscov's Travel and the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
