Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (June 12, 2008) - Rookie LHP Chris McDonough hurled 6.1 innings, allowing just one unearned run as the Rox defeated the Ottawa Rapidz 6-4 in Thursday night's rubber match of the three-game series between the two teams. Brockton led from start to finish, racking up 13 hits against the Rapidz pitching staff.

McDonough was making his third career start, and improved to a perfect 3-0 with his most impressive performance to date. He faced just two batters over the minimum through the first six innings and scattered four hits while striking out three and walking one batter in his longest professional start.

Brockton never trailed during the game and scored first on a sacrifice fly from DH Jud Thigpen in the third inning. In the fourth, RF Eugene Julien drove in the second Rox run with an RBI single that plated LF Tony Gonzalez. Brockton dropped Rapidz starter LHP Mike Kusiewicz to 0-5 on the season by chasing him after 4.2 innings. He left the game trailing 5-0 with the bases loaded in the fifth inning. Brockton scored three times in the fifth capped by a two-run double by Gonzalez.

Ottawa rallied off the Rox bullpen with a run in the seventh and three in the eighth before closer RHP Jerry Dunn was summoned for his fourth save of the season. Dunn pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning with a strikeout.

Brockton turns its attention next to the Atlantic City Surf on Friday, June 13th at 7:05 PM. RHP Wayne Lundgren will start for the Rox against Surf LHP Brian Rodaway. Friday is Spygate Demolition Night at Campanelli Stadium and fans are invited to bring any video evidence they wish to have destroyed to the ballpark as the Rox do their part in putting an end to the Spygate controversy. The Rox will be blowing up all incriminating evidence after the game with baseball promotions guru Mike Veeck on hand to push the button.
