Pride Complete Sweep of Jackals

(Nashua, N.H., June 12, 2008) Nashua Pride pitcher Jarrett Stawarz, in his first start of the season, earned a 5-4 victory over the New Jersey Jackals, going six innings, allowing just one run, on six hits, while walking one and striking out three, to help the Pride's record to over .500 (10-9) for the first time since Opening Day.

Right fielder Jeremy Pickrel went 2-for-4 with three RBI, hitting his second home run of the season, a three run shot in the bottom of the sixth inning, which was the eventual game winner. Catcher Luis Rodriguez and center fielder Vinny Pennell also notched RBI for the Pride, both coming in the fifth inning. Rodriguez finished the game 2-for-4 with a double. Designated hitter Dennis Abreu also had a multiple hit performance for the Pride, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Nashua closer Andrew Weimer picked up his Can-Am League leading seventh save of the season, facing four batters in the ninth. Lefthander Mike Joyce was charged with two runs, on two hits, and a pair of strike outs in one and two-thirds innings of work. After pitching a perfect seventh, Joyce left the top of the eighth with two men on and two outs. Adam Piechowski then gave a up a three run home run to Jackals third baseman Chris Kelly, who finished the game 2-for-4 with a triple, home run, and three RBI. Piechowski was charged with one run, on one hit, while picking up a strike out in one third of an inning.

New Jersey starter Ryan Pacyna suffered the loss, going six innings, allowing five runs (three earned), on eight hits, one walk, and no strike outs. Relievers Brandon Martin and Ted Serro each pitched one shut-out inning for the Jackals.

The Pride will now open up a three game series at Historic Holman Stadium versus the first place Quebec Capitales, on Friday night at 7:05pm. Hideki Nagasaka (3-0) is scheduled to start for the Pride. Kevin Beavers (1-2) will get the ball for the Capitales.
