Brockton Rox News Release

Quebec City, Quebec - The Brockton Rox could not muster enough offense to keep pace with the Quebec Capitales as they fell in defeat, 9-6, on Friday night at Le Stade Municipal. The Rox out-hit the Capitales, 12-10, for the contest.

The Rox (2-3 second half, 29-23 overall) scored first for the second straight game, plating two runs in the first on three hits. C Scott Wearne led off the game with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice by CF Chris Valencia and then scored on a passed ball charged to Quebec C Marc Mimeault. 3B Melvin Falu came across with the second tally on a two-out RBI single by DH Chris Grossman.

The Capitales (3-2, 33-19) struck back with vengeance in the bottom half of the inning with five runs on four hits off Brockton starter Buster Lussier. RF Sebastien Boucher smacked a run-scoring single, as did 3B Patrick Deschenes. LF Robert Wagner then recorded his second homer in as many days, a three-run shot, to give Quebec a 5-2 lead.

Brockton got back to within one run by scoring two in the second inning on an RBI single by Valencia and a fielder's choice RBI off the bat of Falu.

The score remained 5-4 in favor of Quebec until the bottom of the fourth when the Capitales put another four-spot on the board. The inning included a two-run single by Boucher and a sacrifice fly from DH Jeremy Hunt.

RHP Jose Aquino, in relief of Lussier, pitched four scoreless innings to keep Quebec off of the scoreboard for the rest of the game. LHP Brad Hertzler also added a perfect eighth inning out of the pen for the Rox.

The Brockton offense tried to fight back late, scoring two runs in the eighth with four straight singles, including an RBI base knock from LF Mike Conroy. Valencia added another RBI on a fielder's choice, but that was all the Rox could get.

Quebec LHP Andrew Albers recorded the final four outs of the game to pick up his sixth save of the season. Starter Troy Cate (2-) threw 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts to earn the victory.

Lussier (1-4) dropped the decision after just three innings, surrendering nine runs (eight earned) with nine hits, two walks and three punch-outs.

Wearne had another multi-hit game for the Rox, going 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Valencia drove in two runs in the game, while 2B Derek Kinzler chipped in with a two-hit night and two runs scored. Conroy finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored.

Boucher led the Capitales, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, and Wagner was 2-for-2 with the three-run homer and two walks. 2B Josh Colafemina and CF Goefrey Tomlinson both had multiple hits for Quebec.

Game three of this four-game series will be on Saturday night at Le Stade Municipal. RHP Wayne Lundgren (6-3) will take on on Quebec RHP Dan Sausville (5-3). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
