Can-Am League Recap

July 23, 2010 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Quebec 9, Brockton 6

Quebec scored five in the first inning, capped by a three-run homer by 1B Robert Wagner, and exploded for four more in the fourth to down Brockton 9-6. After falling behind 2-0 in the first, the Capitales managed to tie the game on RBI singles from RF Sebastien Boucher and 3B Patrick Deschenes, and got the go-ahead blow from Wagner with one out. Brockton then pulled within one before a two-run single by Boucher highlighted a four-run frame in the bottom of the fourth for the Capitales. Quebec starter Troy Cate earned his second win by lasting 6.2 innings despite allowing four earned runs, and reliever Andrew Albers didn't allow a hit over the final two innings to pick up his sixth save.

New Jersey 8, Sussex 4

The Jackals broke a tie by plating five runs late, and four hurlers combined to hold Sussex in check in an 8-4 victory. With the game tied at 3-3 in the seventh, New Jersey DH Jacob Butler drove in a pair with a double to propel the Jackals into the lead, and the offense scored three more before the end of the eighth. On the mound, none of the Jackals' four pitchers threw more than 3.2 innings, but each was effective enough to hold off the Skyhawks. Chris Vasami, the first man out of the bullpen, recorded 11 outs and allowed just one run to earn his first win. Sussex 3B Nick Giarraputo and RF Caleb Stewart, who leads the league with 55 RBI, each knocked in a pair in the loss.

Worcester at Pittsfield (Postponed - Rain)

This game was postponed due to rain. The game will be played as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, July 24 beginning at 5:05 pm.
