Rox Late-Game Rally Comes up Short

St. Cloud, MN - After spending the last four games on the road, the St. Cloud Rox returned home on Thursday night to take on the Duluth Huskies.
Despite a late-game comeback attempt, the Rox ended up falling short to the Huskies 8-1 at the Rock Pile.
St. Cloud got the start in the game from Jack Cushing (Georgetown), who pitched six impressive innings on the mound. Cushing gave up just six hits, one walk and struck out eight, his highest strikeout total since he struck out nine on May 30. Jake Stevenson (Minnesota) came in to pitch three innings in relief, giving up four hits, three runs and one walk.
Down 4-0 moving into the eighth inning, the Rox made a late-game comeback attempt, scoring one run in the bottom of the eighth inning, the lone run coming on a wild pitch that scored Connor Aube (Texas at Arlington). St. Cloud, however, wasn't able to complete the comeback in the end.
Gus Steiger (South Dakota State) led St. Cloud at the plate in the game, finishing 2-for-4. Aube went 1-for-3 with one run scored, while Jack Barrie (Northwestern Ohio), Hance Smith (California-Berkeley) and Bobby Seymour (Wake Forest) all tallied one hit a piece.
St. Cloud will hit the road for a two-game road trip in Waterloo on Friday and Saturday, before returning to the Rock Pile at 4:05 p.m. Sunday to face Duluth. The game will be Rox Championship Baseball Giveaway presented by Sentry Bank, where the first 300 fans 14 years old and under will receive a 2017 Rox Northwoods League Championship baseball. It is also Coborn's Kids' Day, where kids will have the opportunity to run the bases and get autographs on the field after the game.
The Rox are in their seventh season of Northwoods League Baseball in 2018. Single game and group tickets for the entire season are on sale now.
