Rox Kick Start Road Stint with Win over Rochester, 9-6

Rochester, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox took to the road Tuesday night as they start out a six game road stint in Rochester taking on the Honkers at Mayo Field. St. Cloud defeated the Honkers by a final score of 9-6.

The Honkers were the first to score in the game as they took a 1-0 lead over the Rox in the bottom of the third inning off a single that was set up with a double to center field.

Daniel Comstock was the Rox lead off batter in the top of the fifth posting a double to right field starting the inning off in the right direction. Bradley Strong followed hitting a single to the pitcher. Comstock would score to tie the game up 1-1 off a single by Conor Keniry and Strong was putout at second for the Rox first out. Devin Pearson singled to center field moving Keniry to third and then advanced to second on the throw. The Rox would take their first lead as Vincent Jackson hit one to right field for a single making it a 2-1 game as Keniry crossed home plate.

St. Cloud would extend their lead in the top of the sixth after a pitching change by the Honkers. Charlie Morgan reached first on a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Comstock was walked as well. With two outs on the board for the Rox it was Conor Keniry hitting a two-run double to left field moving the Rox to a 4-1 lead over Rochester.

In the bottom of the sixth the Honkers would come back making it a 4-2 game off a two out single prior to the Rox making a change on the mound. The Rox would bring in relief pitcher John Oltman, as he inherited bases loaded and two outs.

Rochester was able to score one more run in the bottom of the sixth as Oltman walked his first batter faced to make it a 4-3 game.

The Rox' Vincent Jackson was the lead off batter earning a walk on a 4-0 count in the top of the seventh inning. Tim Colwell singled to right field moving Jackson to third as he was followed with a three-run home run by Adam Martin to take a 7-3 lead over the Honkers.

Leading off in the top of the ninth Morgan posted a single to left field prior to Luke Weber coming in to pinch run. Strong had a base hit out to right field and advanced off a Honkers wild pitch to put two runners in scoring position for the Rox. St. Cloud took a 8-3 lead as Keniry singled to left field scoring Weber from third. A base hit to right field by Eric Loxtercamp would bring the in the Rox final run of the inning taking a 9-3 lead into the bottom half of the inning.

Rochester would put the Rox in a tough spot as they posted three runs on five hits in the bottom of the ninth but St. Cloud held on to win by a final score of 9-6.

On the mound for the Rox was starting pitcher Kyle Davis as he pitched 5.2 innings of work, posting 11 strikeouts and moving his record to 3-1 on the season. Also seeing some action on the mound was John Oltman for 2.0 innings of work and closing out the game for 1.1 innings was Adam Maxon.

The St. Cloud Rox (14-20, 14-20 North) and the Rochester Honkers (17-17, 17-17 North) will be back in action Wednesday night for game two. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. from Mayo Field.
