
Campbell's Walk-Off Grand Slam Lifts Honkers over Rox

(Rochester, MN) - There were already fireworks scheduled for after the game, but Jeff Campbell (North Dakota) provided the early explosion with a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Rochester Honkers a 4-2 win over the St. Cloud Rox to wrap up the first half of the season on Wednesday July 3 at Mayo Field.
Conor Keniry started the top of the third inning with a single and came around to score on a wild pitch from Nick Dolsky (Oklahoma State) with two outs to give the Rox a 1-0 lead.
Tim Colwell drew a leadoff walk in the top of the seventh inning, advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from Adam Martin, and scored on a two-out single from Luke Weber to give St. Cloud an insurance run.
Michael Pomeroy (Grand Canyon University) and Reid Roper (Illinois) started the bottom half of the ninth inning with a pair of singles. Kevin Barker (UC Davis) attempted move the runners over with a sacrifice bunt, but was walked on four pitches to load the bases with no outs. Campbell entered the game as a pinch-hitter and belted the second pitch that he saw over the left-center field to send the Honkers crowd of 1,447 people into a frenzy.
Carter Burgess (Sam Houston State) went 2-for-4 on the night to extend his hitting streak to 22 games. Justin Parr set the Honkers franchise record in 2012 with a 23-game hitting streak.
Logan Spitzack (St. Cloud State) earned the win (2-1) as he pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Alex McRae took the loss (2-2,) for the Rox. He allowed four runs on three hits and did not record an out. Dolsky allowed two runs on just two hits in seven innings, while St. Cloud starting pitcher Kyle Murray allowed two hits in six scoreless innings.
Rochester (18-17) will begin the second half of the season against the first-half North Division champions, the Waterloo Bucks, on Thursday July 4 at 6:35 p.m. at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo, IA. Brandon Stennis (Doane College) is scheduled to make the start for the Honkers, while Grant Borne (Nicholls St.) is slated to start for the Bucks. The Honkers will return home to host the Bucks on Saturday, July 6. Saturday is "Life's a Beach Night," featuring margarita specials.
