Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (May 29, 2007) - BROCKTON - Atlantic City Surf 3B Anthony Granato hit a two-run homerun with two outs in the sixth inning to give the Surf a 3-2 lead, which they would eventually extend to 5-2 in handing the Rox the first loss of the 2007 season. Rox LHP Donavon Hendricks took the loss pitching six innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits, and struck out seven in his first career start.

The Surf scored first in the third inning on an RBI single by CF Lucas Taylor which plated RF Magic Mears. But the Rox answered back in the fifth. With the bases loaded and two outs, 2B Eugene Julien lifted a high fly along the line in shallow left field. Three Atlantic City players converged on the ball however none was able to make the catch. Two runs scored on Julien's single and Brockton owned a 2-1 lead. Julien was 3-4 with a double and two RBI on the night for the Rox.

The Rox only advantage of the night was short-lived however. In the top of the sixth, with Hendricks still on the mound and two outs, Granato hit his first homerun of the season off the light tower in left field to re-establish the Surf lead at 3-2. One inning later, the Surf added some insurance on a sacrifice fly by SS Denver Kitch, and a disputed balk called against Rox RHP Luis Carreras.

In his second start of the season for Atlantic City, RHP J.C. Huguet picked up the victory, with a seven inning performance. He allowed two earned runs on five hits, while walking two and striking out six. RHP Matt Pike earned his third save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Rox and Surf will finish the three game series at Campanelli Stadium on Wednesday night at 7:05. LHP Brian Rodaway (1-0, 10.80 ERA) is scheduled to start for Atlantic City opposite Brockton's RHP Mike McTamney (0-0, 1.50 ERA).
