Okamoto Named Pitcher of the Week

(NASHUA, NH, May 29, 2007) PA-Sportsticker, the Can-Am Leagues's official statistician has just announced the Akira "A-OK" Okamoto has been named the Pitcher of the Week for May 24-27.

In his first start of the season A-OK scattered four hits over five strong innings without allowing a run and striking out nine. He is scheduled to pitch next for the Pride on Thursday, May 31st, against the Sussex Skyhawks at Historic Holman Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.

Okamoto joined the Pride after an outstanding stint with SV ADO in Den Haag of the Netherlands Major League (Honkbal Hoofdklasse) The 33-year-old righthander posted a 6-1 record, 1.11 ERA and 100 strikeouts over 105 innings in 13 games with the Dutch League club. Okamoto spent seven seasons in the Japanese Pacific League going 35-38, 3.71 ERA, 30 saves and 415 strikeouts in 595.2 innings of work.
