Brockton Rox News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NJ- The New Jersey Jackals scored four first-inning runs and led start to finish as the Rox fell 7-4 at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, NJ. The loss quashed any chance to win the first-half title in the Can-Am League. RHP Joey Baker allowed six runs, only three of which were earned, as the Rox committed four errors in the loss. 3B/2B Mike Torres led the Rox with a 3-5, two double game. Former Rox RHP Jason Wylie garnered his second save in as many nights for the Jackals. The Rox have still won 13 of their last 17 games and finish the first half of the season with a 12:05 PM game against the Jackals tomorrow.

After the Rox stranded a runner at third in the first, the Jackals pounced on Baker in the bottom of the inning. The Jackals scored two runs on a Rox error and a sacrifice fly by 1B Bill Peavey. With two outs, DH John Lindsey struck out swinging, but the ball got away from C Jason Radwan, allowing Lindsey to reach. New Jersey 2B Joe Mihalics and C Clay Kuklick each followed with RBI singles to give New Jersey a 4-0 lead.

The Rox scored a run in the third on a 1B Francisco Lebron sac fly, and trailing 6-1 in the fourth, scored two more runs. Torres doubled to right and scored on a LF Eugene Julien triple. Julien scored when 2B David Keesee struck out swinging on a pitch in the dirt, but Kuklick's throw to first went wild, letting Julien walk home.

Trailing 7-4 in the ninth, Lebron drew a walk and 3B Zach Strong knocked a two-out single to right to keep the Rox alive. Torres went down looking to end the game, as the Rox fall to 24-21 with the loss. Tomorrow, RHP John Boker starts for the Rox at 12:05 PM against the Jackals in the final game of the season's first half.
