Cutters long balls make the difference in tonight's game

WORCESTER, MA- It was the long ball, or rather four long balls, that put the Cutters up big over the Tornadoes 12-6 on Tuesday night in front of a sellout crowd at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

A sacrifice fly by Chris Colabello scored the Tornadoes' leadoff batter Austin Wasserman who hit a double to start the night. The Tornadoes would score one run in the next two innings and then would be held scoreless until the ninth inning when they attempted a comeback by scoring three runs.

Starting pitcher Brad Withworth left the game after an inning and a third due to an injury and Justin Knoff came into the game in relief.

The Cutters scored two runs in the fourth inning on solo shots by Thomari Story-Harden and Orlando Encarnacion. They would rely on the long ball again in the sixth inning when third baseman Jeremey Terni hit a two run shot and the Cutters took the lead 6-3.

Cuttters right fielder Orlando Encarnacion hit his second home run of the game in the seventh inning and would end up with 5 RBI on the night. The Cutters tacked on four in the eighth as Encarnacion drew a walk with the bases loaded to score Lawrence. Chris Gaskin had a bases loaded single for 2 RBI. Sandy Deleon had his third single of the night and tacked on another run with an RBI.

Junior Guerrero left the game after 5 2/3 innings. Elvis Jiminez (3-3) was called in from the bullpen and took the loss as Cory Willey (4-1) picked up the win.

The Tornadoes will finish the series against the Cutters tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7:05 PM at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. Tickets are still available.
