Rox Falter In Extras Against Dirt Dawgs
June 4, 2016 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Brockton Rox News Release
A 9th inning comeback by the Rox meant nothing to the final outcome of the game. A collapse in the 11th inning sent Dirt Dawgs players home feeling satisfied.
The Rox took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, only to get wiped out in the fifth and sixth inning when the Dirt Dawgs took a 3-1 lead with RBI's by Ryan Ogren and TJ Ward, both Sac flies.
The Rox made it a 1 run game going into the 9th when Eric Feliz was gunned out at first, but still drove in Ben Porter at third.
Dirt Dogs capitalized on their opportunities in the top half of the ninth, scoring 2 more runs and stretching the lead to 3. Justin Sleigh had a 2 RBI single that scored Angelo Navetta and Grant Hoover.
Down 5-2 in the bottom of the ninth, the Rox rallied. Jack Lambrecht hit a 3 run home run to left field that scored Bailey Klein and Ben Porter, and ultimately sent the game to extras.
In the 11th, the Rox lost their swagger. The Dirt Dawgs scored 6 runs, half of the runs were scored without any batters contact. Two hit batters and a walk scored three runs, and Cam Oliveira sealed the deal with a 2 RBI single.
The Rox attempted to make a comeback, scoring twice in the bottom of the 11th, but it was too little too late.
The 11-7 loss sends the Rox to the bottom the bottom of the Eastern Conference, tied with the North Shore Navigators for the worst record in the conference (0-3).
The Rox travel to Martha's Vineyard tomorrow to play the Sharks (2-0) where they look to capture their first win of the season.
