Rox Fallen By Errors, 6-4

The Brockton Rox (13-10) allowed defensive errors to get the best of them on Saturday night at Yale Field, as the New Haven County Cutters (6-17) defeated the Rox, 6-4.

Derek Gibson drove home Nelson Samboi in the bottom of the first inning to give New Haven an early 1-0 lead. That would be the only earned run allowed by Rox starter Brad Guy.

In the top of the second Kris Zacuto walked and moved to third on Guye Senjem's double. When new Rox outfielder Jim Coleman grounded out to shortstop, Zacuto scored to tie the game, 1-1.

In the bottom of the second, Jeff Brooks led off with a single. When Brooks tried to score on Andy Larned's double, Brooks was cut down at the plate by Saul Bustos to keep the game tied.

Bustos would add to his defensive play at the plate in the fifth inning when he drove in Saul Bustos with two outs to put the Rox ahead, 2-1.

In the sixth, Guye Senjem hit a ball just beyond the outfield wall for a two-run home run that gave the Rox a 4-1 lead.

New Haven scored three runs without a single hit in the seventh inning. Chas Terni reached on an error by Bustos. Keto Anderson walked. Keith Stegbauer reached on an error by Hector Henriquez that allowed Terni to score. A groundout by Darren Ciraco scored Anderson, and when Senjem dropped a ball in left field Stegbauer scored to tie the game, 4-4. All three seventh inning runs were unearned.

In the bottom of the ninth, Derek Gibson hit a walk-off two-run home run to give the Cutters the 6-4 win.

Brad Guy pitched six innings and gave up three runs, one earned, on seven hits. Guy walked one and struck out five. Tony Stutz (2-3) suffered the loss. Jarrett Stawarz (1-2) got the win for the Cutters.

Four Cutters, including manager Mike Church and pitching coach Todd Etler, were ejected from the game. Following the game, members of the Cutters attempted to confront the umpires, but security stepped in.
