
Rox Defeat Cutters 6-1, Sweep Series; Loss Extends Losing Streak to Five

Brockton, MAâ June 13, 2004) The Brockton Rox completed a three game sweep of the New Haven County Cutters on Sunday with a 6-1 win at Campanelli Stadium. The Cutters, losers of five straight, are now under .500 for the first time this season.
Trailing 1-0 in the second, Kevin Forbes hit a solo home run off Brockton starter Scott Martin to tie the game at one. The home run was Forbes' second of the year. The left fielder would later add a double in the loss.
Cutter's starter Tony Harden (1-1) went five innings, allowing five runs on eleven hits while striking out three and walking two. Tim Keinath came out of the bullpen to pitch two innings of one run ball and Shane Waroff tossed a scoreless eighth for the Cutters.
Rox centerfielder Nestor Smith led off the bottom of first inning with a home run to give Brockton an early 1-0 lead. Right fielder Aaron Fera added a two RBI single in a three run second inning for Brockton that extended their lead to 4-1. Fera ended the day going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two walks.
Rox starter Scott Martin (2-0) pitched 7 and 1/3 innings allowing six hits and one run while striking out four. Tony Stutz and Matt Bennett combined to pitch the final 2 and 2/3 innings for Brockton to preserve the win.
The Cutters return home to Yale Field on Monday to open up a four game series with New Jersey Jackals. All games are scheduled for 7:05pm
The New Haven County Cutters play their home games in Elm City's historic Yale Field. The club plays a 92-game schedule in the eight-team independent Northeast League. All games, road and home, can be heard on the internet through cuttersbaseball.com and the next WMRD (1150AM) broadcast will be this Saturday, June 19th, as the Cutters visit the Bangor Lumberjacks with first pitch set for 6:30 PM.
