Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (June 17, 2008) - Worcester Tornadoes LHP Tom Cochran remained perfect on the 2008 season with a 4-1 victory over the Brockton Rox on Tuesday night at Hanover Insurance Park. Cochran improved to 4-0, dealing eight innings and allowing just one run on three hits.

Rox LHP Rolando Viera took the loss in the game and fell to 1-4. He lost his third straight attempt to become the career wins leader for the Rox. He has 21 career victories, tied with former Rox RHP Joey Baker. Viera was not completely at fault for the loss as the Rox committed four errors on the evening, however the left-hander was in trouble for most of the night. Worcester loaded the bases with nobody out in the second inning. Viera managed to hold the Tornadoes to just one run in that inning. Worcester struck again in the fifth to push the lead to 2-0 with an RBI single by the league's top hitter, RF Scott Grimes. Grimes also homered later in the game and finished with three hits.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the sixth inning, Brockton LF Eugene Julien picked up his second hit of the night with one out. At the time, his were the only hits off of Worcester starter Cochran. CF Ervin Alcantara followed with a single of his own. Former Tornado, SS Dominic Ramos then drove in Julien with a sacrifice fly. That was all the Rox offense could muster on the night however, as Cochran was dialed in all night. He retired the Rox in order in five of the eight innings he pitched. RHP John Birtwell recorded the save for the Tornadoes.

The two teams meet again on Wednesday night at Hanover Insurance Park. Rox LHP Chris McDonough (1-3, 4.60 ERA) will go against Worcester RHP Matt Weagle (4-1, 2.89 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
