
Round Rock Comes from Behind to Take Down Sugar Land

SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Round Rock Express (24-17 | 68-47) defeated the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (14-27 | 47-69) by a final score of 4-3 at Constellation Field on Wednesday night behind a late-inning comeback.
Round Rock reliever RHP Kyle Cody (3-4, 6.27) earned the win by tossing 3.0 hitless innings that saw one walk and three strikeouts. Sugar Land reliever RHP Nick Allgeyer (4-4, 6.96) walked away with a blown-save loss after 2.0 innings that saw four runs, three hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Express RHP Yerry Rodriguez notched the save after recording the final out in the ninth inning with two inherited runners on base.
Along the Train Tracks:
Sugar Land worked three straight walks to load the bases in the first inning before SS Shay Whitcomb hit a bases-clearing double to give the Space Cowboys a 3-0 lead.
Express 3B Davis Wendzel drew a walk and RF Sandro Fabian singled in the seventh, which had the pair on base for 2B Dio Arias, whose three-run home run tied the game at 3-3.
In the eighth inning, SS Jonathan Ornelas doubled and C Sam Huff drew a walk before a single from Wendzel delivered the 4-3 lead for Round Rock.
Sugar Land had runners on the corners with two outs in the ninth inning after RF Justin Dirden walked and C Cesar Salazar singled. RHP Yerry Rodriguez entered the game and retired 3B Rylan Bannon on a force out and the 4-3 score stood final.
E-Train Excerpts:
After Wednesday's 4-3 win, Round Rock's winning streak sits at eight games. It is the first eight-game winning streak since June 28-July 5 of 2008 and is the club's sixth all-time win streak of eight or more games.
Round Rock LF Josh Harrison appeared in his first game with the team since signing a minor league contract with the Texas organization. The righty went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts.
The E-Train earned their seventh win of the season, and third on the road, after trailing when entering the seventh inning. The team trailed 3-0 after six frames on Wednesday night, which is the largest seventh-inning deficit that Round Rock has overcome on the road during the 2023 campaign.
Next up: The Express will face the Space Cowboys in game three of the series at Constellation Field on Thursday night. Round Rock RHP Owen White (1-1, 5.18) is slated to start against Sugar Land RHP Misael Tamarez (0-7, 5.83). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT.
