MONTPELIER, Vt. - Senior second baseman Thomas Roulis (New Hyde Park, N.Y. / Dartmouth) was named New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The Long Island native put together an incredible week at the plate, going 13-for-21, which equates to .619. Roulis had a streak of eight consecutive hits, including a 5-for-5 night at Laconia on Monday, which culminated in a solo homerun in the ninth inning.
He hit one homerun, two doubles and had three runs batted in. He also scored three runs on the week. Roulis walked twice and went 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts. The senior currently leads the league in hitting, sporting a .581 batting average.
Sophomore Sam Delaplane (San Jose, Calif. / Eastern Michigan) was named to the league's honorable mention list. In two outings, Delaplane picked up two saves in relief. He struck out ten batters and threw five scoreless innings on the week.
On the season, Delaplane has pitched seven and two-thirds innings without allowing a hit. He has 15 strikeouts to just two walks.
Roulis' distinction marks the first Vermont player of the summer to garner a league award and first Mountaineer since Colin Lyman accomplished that feat in the final week of the 2014 season.
