Roulis enjoyed an absolutely torrid week at the plate, finishing with a league-high 13 hits in 21 at-bats for a sterling .619 average. He knocked in two doubles and a home run while driving in three and scoring three times, as well. He drew two walks, never struck out, and went 4-for-5 on the bases in five games played.

Pitcher of the Week

RHP Michael Mertz

Senior

Newport Gulls

Oklahoma State

On the mound, Mertz made two appearances - one start - for the Gulls last week and dazzled, striking out 10 over 10 scoreless innings with only four hits and three walks surrendered. He made his Newport debut out of the bullpen last Monday and contributed four scoreless innings against New Bedford. Then on Saturday, he avenged the team's loss against the Bay Sox by tossing six dominant innings with eight Ks, two walks and two hits surrendered.

Honorable Mentions

Joven Afenir (Newport/Kansas) - Finished 10-for-16 (.625) and led the league in batting average while adding a double and a league-high seven runs scored in four games.

Brian Christian (Plymouth/Northeastern) - In two appearances, fanned 11 in only 5-1/3 innings with only two walks surrendered while giving up no runs.

Sam Delaplane (Vermont/Eastern Michigan) - Picked up two saves in two dominant relief outings, striking out 10 in five scoreless innings with no hits or walks surrendered.

Cody Dube (Sanford/Keene State) - Fanned 10 in 5-1/3 innings with only one earned run allowed, posting a 1.69 ERA in the process.

Kyle Gauthier (Keene/Hartford) - Dazzled in lone start of the week, totaling seven strikeouts over six scoreless innings while scattering six hits to pick up the victory.

Aaron Hill (Mystic/Connecticut) - Swiped a league-high six stolen bases in six attempts while also adding five hits in 17 at-bats with two runs over five games.

Tim Lynch (Ocean State/Southern Mississippi) - Drove in five runs on six hits and scored six more (2nd/NECBL) while blasting three homers and totaling two more doubles in four games.

Willie Rios (Mystic/Maryland) - Logged a league-high 12 strikeouts in two starts, totaling 9-2/3 innings whiel posting a 0.93 ERA.

Brent Rooker (Plymouth/Mississippi State) - Went 8-for-22 (.364) with six runs, two doubles, two homers and seven RBIs in five games.

Ben Ruta (Mystic/Wagner) - Finished with a .444 average on eight hits in 18 at-bats; also scored three times, drilled three doubles and drove in six.

2015 Player/Pitcher of the Week Archives

Week 1: Critelli (New Bedford)/Viehoff (Laconia)

- Adam Conley (Keene '09) made his Major League debut, becoming the 116th NECBL Alum to crack The Bigs and the fifth to debut this year.

- Three NECBL alumni were taken in the top-50 picks of the 2015 MLB Draft and over 90 were selected overall. Chris Shaw (New Bed '13), Nathan Kirby (Newport '13) and Brett Lilek (Newport '13) all went on Day 1 of the Draft.

- Frederick Keys first baseman Trey Mancini was named the Carolina League Player of the Month for May. Mancini (Holyoke 2011) led the Carolina League with a .362 batting average, 42 hits, 67 total bases and a .578 slugging percentage in May. He was also second in the league in extra base hits (14) and fourth in RBI (19). Mancini, 23, was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the eighth round of the 2013 Draft out of Notre Dame.

The 22nd annual NECBL All-Star game will be held on Sunday, July 19th, at Historic Goodall Park in Sanford, Maine.

Hosted by the Sanford Mainers, the NECBL All-Star game showcases the NECBL's top student-athletes in a fun-filled afternoon and evening of baseball splendor. The 2015 NECBL All-Star Game is heading to the great state of Maine this summer!

The NECBL's Midsummer Classic will be hosted by our very own Sanford Mainers on Sunday, July 19th. Join the NECBL's elite student-athletes as they take to the diamond in front of scouts from every MLB organization, as the Sanford community celebrates the 100th anniversary of historic Goodall Park, one of New England's iconic baseball backdrops.
