Frisco RoughRiders News Release

Frisco tied a season-high with eight runs in one inning to defeat the RockHounds 9-8 on Wednesday at Dr Pepper Ballpark

The RoughRiders used an eight-run inning en route to the 9-8 victory over the RockHounds on Wednesday. Adam Fox and Chad Tracy each hit two-run home runs in an eight-run fifth frame as Frisco tied a season-high for runs in an inning. Frisco starter Michael Kirkman (4-5) allowed just three runs over seven frames to improve to 3-1 in the month of July. The RoughRiders (12) and RockHounds (12) combined for 24 hits on the night.

Midland jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run homer by Chris Carter. The RoughRiders then struck for eight runs in the fifth inning as Frisco sent 11 batters to the plate. After a Johnny Whittleman single, Adam Fox hit his 10th home run of the season, which is second on the team. Frisco tied the score at three when Manny Pina scored on a Marcus Lemon single and then took the lead on a two-run triple by Dustin Majewski, who then scored on an RBI single by Mitch Moreland. Frisco capped the inning on a two-run home run by Chad Tracy to give the RoughRiders an 8-3 advantage. The RoughRiders added another run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Guilder Rodriguez to plate Pina and make the score 9-3. Midland chipped away at the Frisco lead with a pair of runs in the eighth inning and three more in the ninth, but the RoughRiders bullpen held on for the 9-8 win.

Kirkman allowed three runs on seven hits over seven frames, striking out three and not walking a batter. Jose Diaz notched his team-best 10th save on the season for Frisco. Midland starter Justin Souza (0-1) allowed seven runs over just 4.1 innings for his first loss of the season.

Pina had a team-best three hits and scored a pair of runs as eight of Frisco's nine batters in the line-up had at least one hit and one run scored. Majewski, Tracy, and Fox each collected two RBI as Tracy and Midland's Carter both hit their 17th home runs on the season to tie them for second in the Texas League. Frisco now has 34 homers in the month of July which is double than their previous-high for a single month (17 - May).

The RoughRiders and RockHounds will play the rubber match on Thursday at Dr Pepper Ballpark with first pitch at 7 p.m. The Famous Chicken will perform at Thursday's contest and Interstate Batteries will also be on-hand, creating a "winter" environment outside Dr Pepper Ballpark.
