RoughRiders Shoot Down Lancers Win Streak

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders needed a shootout session to stop the Lancers' nine game winning streak, defeating the Lancers 4-3 on Saturday, February 17th in Cedar Rapids. The Lancers remain 9-0-1 in their last ten games heading into a late Sunday afternoon contest against the Green Bay Gamblers at the Mid-America Center.

Aaron Bogosian's tenth goal of the season gave Cedar Rapids a 1-0 lead at 7:20 of the first period, but the Lancers answered quickly with Ben Arnt's fifth goal of the season just twenty seconds later at 7:40 of the first period. Arnt's goal in a scramble in front of RoughRider goalie Richard Bachman was assisted by Barry Almeida and Matt Thurber.

In the second period, the Lancers took a 2-1 lead on Nick Petrecki's blast from the wing at 3:31, unassisted, his eighth goal of the year. However, Evan Stephens of the RoughRiders scored a power play goal on a screen shot past Lancer goalie Drew Palmisano just over a minute later at 4:39 to knot the game at 2-2.

Cedar Rapids scored first in the third period when Tommy Wingels scored in a scramble in front of Palmisano on the power play for 3-2 RoughRider lead. But, the Lancers would answer that goal with Patrick Schafer's shot in the slot, resulting in his 12th goal of the year, assisted by Andrew Conboy and Mark Olver at 13:14 for a 3-3 tie.

There was no further scoring in the third period and in overtime. Wingels would decide the contest in the shootout with a goal in the final round as Cedar Rapids outscored the Lancers 1-0.

The RoughRiders out shot the Lancers by a 52-40 margin for the contest, including 19 shots in the second period alone. The Lancers out shot the 'Riders 16-14 in the final period.

Cedar Rapids scored twice in 11 power play chances, while the Lancers were 0-for-6. Omaha was whistled 13 times for 26 minutes; the RoughRiders were called eight times for 16 minutes.

Bachman (9-11-1) was the winning goaltender with three-goal, 37 save effort, while Palmisano (13-8-4 overall) took the shootout loss with a 48 save performance.
