Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Mike Seidel has committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth, the RoughRiders announced today.

"This is great news for Mike who is not only a fine player but also a quality person," said RoughRiders Coach and General Manager Mark Carlson. "He's worked very hard since joining the RoughRiders and has also shown a lot of leadership."

Seidel, 20, currently ranks second in the United States Hockey League in points (25), is tied for fourth in assists (15) and is tied for eighth in goals (10). The Darien, Illinois, native was the first Rider this season to act as team captain (the captaincy will rotate among six different players). Now in his third season with the Riders, Seidel ranks third in team history in career points (115) and assists (74) and ranks fifth in career goals (41).

Seidel will join five former RoughRiders- forwards Rob Bordson and David Grun, defenseman Chase Ryan and goaltenders Alex Stalock and Brady Hjelle- already at Minnesota-Duluth. UMD (6-4-4 overall, 3-4-3 conference) is currently tied for seventh in the rugged Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

Seidel joins Greg Burke (New Hampshire), Jeff Costello (Notre Dame), Matt Donovan (Denver), Kyle Flanagan (St. Lawrence), Tyler Lehrke (Minnesota State-Mankato), Cody Murphy (Miami of Ohio), Tobias Nilsson-Roos (Vermont), Nick Oddo (Nebraska-Omaha), Paul Phillips (Denver), Matt Tennyson (Western Michigan) and Scott Winkler (Colorado College) as the twelfth member of the 2008-09 RoughRiders to make a college commitment.

The RoughRiders (13-5-0, 26 points) are in second place overall in the USHL. The Riders return to action with a pair of home games this weekend. The Riders will take on the Omaha Lancers Friday night and will collide with the Tri-City Storm Saturday evening. Both games face off at 7:05PM.

Tickets for all RoughRiders home games- including this weekend's games- can be purchased in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or online at www.roughridershockey.com. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $7 to $17 in advance and from $8 to $18 on game days.

The RoughRiders also offer the Flex Plan, which enables fans to purchase books of ten ticket vouchers that can be redeemed in any quantity for any regular season home game during normal box office hours. Fans who purchase the flex plan receive a significant discount ($21 off game day ticket prices) by investing in bulk tickets and can still enjoy the games of their choice in the seats they want.
