RoughRiders Roll Over Tri-City 5-2

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- The host RoughRiders scored three first period goals on the way to a 5-2 win over the Tri-City Storm Saturday night.

The Riders jumped on the Storm early, scoring twice in the first four minutes and forty-two seconds of the game. Tyler Thompson snapped a wrist shot home from the slot to open the scoring at 2:23 of the first period. The Riders were on the power play when Kyle Flanagan doubled the lead by burying a rebound at the 4:42 mark.

Chris Franks' drive from the right point got the Storm on the scoreboard for the first time at 11:48, but the Riders responded when Nick Oddo's wrist shot beat Tri-City goaltender Aaron Rock (29 saves) from the top of the right wing circle at 14:08 of the first and extended the lead to 3-1.

The Riders stretched the gap to 4-1 just 1:13 into the second period on Robin Bergman's power play goal.

Ian Slater turned David Boehm's centering feed into the fifth Cedar Rapids goal at 5:18 of the third period. By the time Troy Power the puck in during a Storm power play at 7:52 of the third, the issue was no longer in doubt.
