Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks and Ohio Junior Blue Jackets went to overtime Saturday for the third time during three games in Columbus this season. For the third time, the Black Hawks emerged with a win, 3-2.
The Hawks pulled to a 2-0 lead as Blake Kessel scored on a power play just 35 seconds into the action. Early in the second period, Patrick Wey scored his first USHL goal on another long shot from above the circle.
The Blue Jackets tied the score, beginning with a goal from Danny Hobbs less than a minute after Wey found the net. Clark McLean completed the comeback with a chance from the top of the crease during a five-on-three power play.
No scoring in the third led to overtime. Almost midway through the extra five minutes, Jan-Mikael Juutilainen walked over the Ohio line and had his shot blocked. He picked up the puck again off the leftwing boards and flipped it across to Siim Liivik on the opposite side of the crease. Liivik banged it into an open side.
Joe Howe made 18 saves in the win, his first appearance since February 9th.
The Black Hawks return to Young Arena on Friday for a 7:05 game with the Sioux Falls Stampede. It's a college weekend, so all students with id will be admitted for $5.
