Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders goaltender Kent Patterson has been named Stauber's Goalcrease/United States Hockey League Goaltender of the Week.

Patterson, 17, was superb in stopping 91 of the 94 shots he faced as the RoughRiders' swept a pair of games from the Sioux Falls Stampede last weekend at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Patterson made 45 saves in the Riders' 4-2 defeat of Sioux Falls last Friday evening and turned aside 46 shots one night later in a 5-1 victory over the Stampede. For the weekend, he posted a sterling 1.50 goals against average and an astronomical .968 save percentage. The back-to-back wins over Sioux Falls enabled Cedar Rapids to move into a tie for first place in the USHL's East Division with the Waterloo Black Hawks.

"Kent was very sharp all weekend and really has been for the last several weeks as well," said RoughRiders Coach and General Manger Mark Carlson. "Both he and [fellow RoughRider goaltender] Richard Bachman have continued to work hard all season and give us a chance to win almost every night."

Patterson has gone 5-1-0 in his last six starts and 10-2-0 in his last dozen outings and has gone 18-5-1 on the season. The Plymouth, Minnesota, native ranks second in the league in save percentage (.918), is tied for fifth in wins and ranks eighth in goals against average (2.83)

Patterson was ranked eleventh among North American goaltenders in the National Hockey League Central Scouting Service's mid-season rankings of draft eligible players. He joined the Riders this year after playing high school hockey in Minnesota for Blake School last season.

The RoughRiders (29-15-3, 61 points) return to action with three games this week. The Riders will host the Sioux City Musketeers Wednesday night, travel to Council Bluffs to take on the Omaha Lancers Friday night and return home to face the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets Saturday evening. All three games face off at 7:05PM.
