Frisco suffers 7-3 setback to Springfield Thursday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The Frisco RoughRiders (52-30) fell, 7-3, to the visiting Springfield Cardinals (43-39) on Thursday, July 3 in front of a sell out crowd of 10,216 at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The Cardinals jumped on Frisco starter Trey Hodges (6-6) early and often as they posted runs in each of the first four innings. Mark Shorey and Jose Martinez each homered for the Cardinals. Hodges allowed seven runs on 11 hits in four innings of work.

The ‘Riders scored their first run of the contest in the sixth after Elvis Andrus doubled and scored on a Ben Harrison single. Frisco also added a pair of runs in the ninth to pull within four at 7-3.

Dustin Majewski, the reigning Texas League Player of the Week, extended his season-best hitting streak to 11 games with a 2-for-4 performance. In their home debuts, Julio Borbon collected one hit, stole a base, and drove in a run while Jose Vallejo had two hits. JT Restko collected a pair of hits in his first game at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Jose Martinez led the Springfield offense going 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI. Springfield starter Kyle Mura (1-0) held the RoughRiders scoreless on four hits over five innings of work in his Double-A debut.

The sell out crowd was the 22nd at Dr Pepper Ballpark in 2008.

The series continues Friday night with Michael Ballard (7-3, 4.28) taking the hill for Frisco against Springfield's Tyler Herron (4-4, 5.10). First pitch is at 7 p.m. with a spectacular holiday fireworks show following the game.
