Tulsa Drillers News Release

July 3, 2008 - The largest crowd of the season at Drillers Stadium was on hand Thursday night to watch Tulsa turn in one of its best performances of the year. Behind a strong outing from starting pitcher Brandon Hynick, the Drillers topped the Corpus Christi Hooks 7-1. The win kept Tulsa in a first-place tie with Springfield in the North Division standings.

It did not take the Drillers long to get the crowd of 10,096 on their feet in Thursday's win. With Dexter Fowler aboard following a single, Tony Blanco doubled on a sharp ground ball down the third base line. The speedy Fowler came all the way around from first to give the Drillers a 1-0 lead.

The two first-inning hits were all the Drillers managed until breaking through for four runs in the fourth inning against Corpus Christi starting pitcher Brian Bogusevic. Matt Miller led off the fourth with a single to get the big inning under way. Following a Blanco walk, Jeff Kindel brought Miller home with a double off the top of the right field wall. Not to be outdone, right-fielder Daniel Carte ripped a double of his own to score both Blanco and Kindel. Hynick helped himself out with a two-out RBI single, his first of the year, that made it 5-0.

Tulsa put the game out of reach for good in the bottom of the fifth inning with two more runs. Miller hit his second single of the night and scored on another base hit by Kindel. The RBI was his second of the game.

Later in the inning, Carte drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Tony Blanco pushing the Drillers lead to 7-0.

The Hooks finally broke through with a run in the eighth inning but it was erased that same inning with a two-out RBI by Fowler.

Hynick held the Hooks in check all night. He finished the game by allowing just one run on five hits in his eight innings of work. The win improved his record to 5-6.

The Drillers and Hooks will match-up again Friday night at Drillers Stadium. The 7:05 PM 4th of July game will feature Tomas Santiago (3-5) for Tulsa against Polin Trinidad (2-2) as well as a post-game Independence Day Fireworks Extravaganza.
