Roughnecks Sign Former UAB Running Back Rashaud Slaughter

MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks have announced on Wednesday, June 2 that the organization has signed former University of Alabama-Birmingham running back Rashaud Slaughter. Slaughter (5'9", 190 lbs.) spent four seasons with the UAB program from 2006 to 2009 and was a starter for three seasons. As a senior in 2009, Slaughter finished third on the team with 250 rushing yards and one touchdown along with 14 receptions for 173 yards and one touchdown. Slaughter finished with 432 all-purpose yards in 11 games played during the ‘09 season.

"Rashaud is an explosive and versatile ball player on the offensive side of the ball. He has the ability to be productive as a running back, wide receiver and kick returner. We are excited to have him as part of the Roughnecks during the late portion of the regular season." stated West Texas Roughnecks Head Coach Chris Williams.

Rashaud_Slaughter_Action_Pic.jpgAs a junior in 2008, Slaughter posted 514 rushing yards and was the team's second-leading receiver with 29 receptions in 12 games played (nine starts). Slaughter posted four rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown in 2008, and rushed for a season-high 92 yards against Memphis. Slaughter posted more than 40 yards rushing in seven contests and recorded 217 yards on 11 kick returns.

Slaughter was UAB's number one running back in 2007 by rushing for 325 yards on 100 carries with one touchdown. He recorded a season-high 57 yards on 11 carries against Tulsa, and ran for 53 yards on 15 carries versus Florida State. Slaughter also ranked fourth on the team with 22 receptions and had a season-best five catches for 43 yards against Florida State. As a freshman in 2006, Slaughter saw action in 11 games and earned a spot on the Conference USA All-Freshman Team as he was selected at two positions (wide receiver & punt returner). Slaughter finished 2006 with 16 receptions for 113 yards and averaged 24.1 yards on eight kick returns.

The Birmingham, Alabama native attended Minor High School and was named to the Super All-Metro Team by The Birmingham News in 2005. As a senior in 2005, Slaughter rushed for 775 yards with 831 receiving yards and posted 23 total touchdowns (15 rushing, six receiving, one kick return, one punt return).
